Have you seen the new raving fan pages?

Have you see the newest kind of fan page on Facebook? It’s called the “Raving” Fan page.

Don’t go looking for a Facebook fan page creation link. The process for getting a Raving Fan page is the same as getting a regular fan page. What make it different is what is done by the owning company.

To get a Raving fan page you have to create amazing content for your fans. Your service or product has to be so wonderful that when people see what you share they tell their kids to quiet down so they can take in what you have just labored to produce. When you are the owner of a Raging fan page you don’t have to work so hard to create new content every day because the Raving fans will take care of it for you. They will get on your Raving fan page and scream at the top of their lungs about what a great company you have. If a hater gets on your Raving fan page and starts complaining you can sit back and relax. One of your Raving fans will step in to defend you. A Raving fan is worth 20 regular fans. Your Raving fans are your biggest proponents, and your harshest critics.

Do you have a regular fan page or a Raving fan page? Are you doing everything you can for your fans to show that you care about them?

As soon as you prove that you care just as much about your community as you do about your own self-promotion you are on your way to having the next great Raving fan page.

What are some of the other ways you can create a Raving fan page? Let me know in the comments below.

Video: Patrick Allmond chats with Lyn Hester at KSBI

I was lucky enough to be invited to KSBI – a local television station here in Oklahoma City – to talk about social marketing with the host Lyn Hester. It was a live show so I had all kinds of chances to screw it up :) The session went well and that day I was invited back to be a regular contributor by the host and the producer. Tuesday I received an email from the host asking me to come back this Thursday and be a co-host for the full hour of the show. I don’t know what I did (maybe it was the purple shirt) but I need to find that mojo and use it more often.

We talked about social media using the most basic of terms. My goal was to get the audience to under the important of the interaction and how easy it is with the tools we have. On the future sessions that I visit I am going to start breaking down the full circle of marketing more for the audience. The sound is not the best but if you turn it up you can hear it just fine. Many thanks (and please follow) @Allographics for operating the Flip Cam (which is now considered a ‘classic’ camera).

Pay Attention: Facebook now allows ad targeting by zip code

I am far from a tin foil hat kind of guy. But pretty soon you will start seeing ads on Facebook that are very specific to your area.

As of two weeks ago Facebook allows advertisers to target their marketing campaign to specific zip codes. This will only work if you have zip code information in your profile. You should take the time right and check that information. Remove your zip code if you don’t like the idea, but also consider adding your zip code if you’d like to see better advertising. Your zip code information is in your Facebook profile under ‘Contact Information’. Ads are only annoying when you get the ones you don’t want. Now you have a chance to fix that.

About a year ago I wrote my first Facebook application to specifically loop through all of my friends information and show me their zip codes. At that time less than 10% of my friends had filled in that field. So while I think this is a great feature for targetted advertising, I think it will also cause ads to show up less frequently for advertisers.

What is next for Facebook? I’d make an guess here and say that Facebook has a lot more area code information than zip code information. This is due to the fact that many users access Facebook via their phone/mobile application and in some cases the mobile applications require you to validate your mobile number. I can see Facebook turning on area code based advertising in the future. But that will not give the marketing too much more information that they cannot already get by targeting you via your state and your city.
